High power solenoids are designed to switch high currents in DC applications. Similar to a relay, but designed for heavy duty switching applications like motor control.
Solenoids allow for a low input current to switch a high output current - for example, a starter solenoid on an automobile. Available in either insulated or grounded configurations.
Insulated solenoids require the attachment of a ground wire to the solenoid for activation, where grounded solenoids rely on the mounting of the solenoid to a chassis for a ground. Intermittent solenoids are designed to switch very high currents for short periods of time.
